Softwood Plywood is used mainly in the construction industry for various purposes. There are many grades, sizes and thicknesses of softwood plywood depending how they are to be used however in the highest of grades they are sometimes used for decorative purposes such as furniture and cabinet making. It is also known as Shuttering Plywood which is often used for shuttering or pouring concrete into moulds. Due to the properties of shuttering plywood it is weather resistant and does not stick to concrete. Although not aesthetically pleasing in appearance, it is more for functionality, it is typically used where the finish is not an requirement.
It is strong and waterproof, but quite a bit cheaper than standard finished WBP ply. Shuttering ply tends to be somewhat absorbent at first, and is hence harder to decorate. The grain and texture of the surface will also tend to show through any finish.
